Ben Cox

Musician - Vocalist - Workshop Leader - Choir Director - Educator

Ben is an accomplished musician who brings a fresh, unique sound to the music industry.

Having studied Jazz at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Ben was a founding member of successful vocal group Vive. Heavily involved in the London A Cappella festival, Vive won the Voice Festival UK choir competition in 2013 along with the Ward Swingle Award.

Heading up the ‘The Ben Cox Band’, he tours around the UK, regularly playing major jazz festivals, including London, Cheltenham and Scarborough as well ‘sold out’ performances at prestigious venue’s like Ronnie Scott’s and the Pizza Express jazz club.

In 2015 Ben released his debut original album ‘This Waiting Game’ to critical acclaim – It was named by the Daily Telegraph as one of the best jazz albums of 2015 and quickly followed up with his second album ‘Round and Round’ in 2016.

 

Ben is currently recording and touring his latest project ‘Hourglass: The Music of James Taylor’. Also a fan of folk Ben plays the Irish whistle and flute - writing melodies and songs in the hope to release an album.

He is also a passionate and experienced educator. He gives workshops to schools and educational establishments across the country - with a focus on singing, songwriting, developing the ear, and music theory understanding. He currently is the musical director of four choirs in and around London.

Jazz Choirs was established in 2019 by Ben and six Jazz singing friends to provide a space for singers of all abilities and experience who love music, especially Jazz, and who want to develop their voice and repertoire in a fun and social setting. There is no audition and you do not need to know music theory or be able to sight read to join…Jazz Choirs is a space for everyone who enjoys singing! 

Just A Cappella

​Just A Cappella are a Hemel Hempstead based choir singing 4 part harmony arrangements – anything from Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” through to Nat King Cole’s “Autumn Leaves” with Ed Sheeran; Earth, Wind and Fire; Queen and Joe Jackson in between.

Take Twenty

Take Twenty are a lively group of around 35 music enthusiasts who meet weekly in Camden, North London, to sing jazz in four to eight part harmony. The choir has been going for over 35 years, and still retains some of its original members.

They sing original and stylish arrangements of jazz standards, Latin, traditional, and popular tunes. We have an extensive repertoire of over 300 arrangements, mainly created in-house by members of the choir.

Primary Music Specialist - Vocal Leader

I have been on the vocal team at Enfield Music Services for about 5 years. I visit primary schools around the borough performing full year group singing projects - anywhere from 30-120 students. Teaching the children challenging songs with a performance at the end of term.

I also regularly teach curriculum music at St George's Catholic Primary school in Enfield and run the school choir.
